Ms. Welch's Class has a Japanese Tea Ceremony

Ms. Welch's 2nd Grade has a Japanese Tea Ceremony

As a culminating activity to their Japanese Schoolwide Enrichment Unit, Ms. Welch's 2nd Grade Class transformed their classroom into a Japanese Tea House. Ms. Welch and her students researched the customs and "steps" that make up a traditional tea ceremony in order to create a similar event in their classroom.

The students made invitations to the tea ceremony and invited various students, parents and staff at Mountain Park to have tea. The students also created small tables and "tatami" mats to sit on during the ceremony.

Students showed friendship by meeting their guests at the door, serving them seaweed, marshmallows, and other small items to munch on (with their chopsticks) along with their choice of tea.

As part of their performance assessment, students conversed with their guests about what they learned about Japanese culture during their SEM unit.
