USE A 3-Ring BINDER. Clearly mark your child’s name/grade. Have your child highlight
their lines. It is 105 pages. If your child is in a song/dance number it
won't be necessary to print the whole script - unless they would just like to
read it. Understudies and Leads need
the whole script.

MPE Looks Forward to Another
Fantastic Student Play in 2010! With the success of Wizard of Oz,
Peter Pan, Music Man and last year's Annie, MPE is looking very forward to
another amazing show in 2010. Over 200 students each year (now up
to more than 1,000 participants total over the last four years),
plus parent and faculty volunteers, have made these productions a great
success. This year's production will be no exception. When and where will the final performances
be held? The final performances will be
held the evenings of Friday, February
19 and Saturday, February 20 at the How does my child audition? Auditions will be held after
school the week of September 14-18. Audition schedules, audition pieces
and details of this year's show will be posted on the MPE Drama Club section
of the MPE Web site (www.mpes.org)
by mid August. All students who
attend auditions will have a part in the play. Parts
will be assigned by the MPE Drama Club executive committee after all
auditions are complete and will be posted within two weeks after the
auditions. We have had over 200 students participate in each play. What if my child would like to
participate in the play but does not want to be on stage? Fourth and fifth graders, as well
as parents, are welcome to participate as stagehands behind the scenes.
Families with students of all ages are welcome to participate in scenery
painting, props building and other activities as we lead up to the final production.
Some sessions will be held on campus, and some at individual homes. How many rehearsals will my child
have to attend? Rehearsals for individual scenes
will begin by Oct. 5 and will be held one scene per week, after school on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Actors in leading roles will attend most
rehearsals, with supporting and chorus roles reporting only to those weeks
where their scenes are being rehearsed, also Tuesdays and Thursdays after
school. All cast members and stagehands will be asked to attend all rehearsals
the months of January and February for full run throughs before the final
production, again, most likely to be held in hour blocks on Tuesdays and
Thursdays after school. How can I as a parent help out or
get involved with the play? We cannot run the auditions and
rehearsals as well as the performances without many, many parent volunteers.
The MPE Drama Club is manned and run by parent volunteers only and depends
upon the help of all families who participate. A request to help with
the drama committee planning, after school rehearsals and auditions will
also be posted on the MPE Web site by mid August. Parent volunteers can help
with student sign in/sign out, practicing lines, wrangling groups,
choreography, singing, performance makeup, costumes, t-shirts, adult
stagehand work during the dress rehearsals and performances, and
may other areas where they may have an interest or talent. From one hour to
many, all parents are welcome. When will we know more about this
year's play? Look for the special announcement
of this year's play, and many more details about the production,
auditions, scenery painting and props building in MPE's
weekly newsletter, the Mustang Flyer, after school starts. As many
of the MPE students and families will attest, it is exciting, it is a
great learning experience and it is a lot of fun! - Yvonne Russell, Kris Burnett and Susi Albisu |
